Rick Townend

One of the UK‘s most outstanding Bluegrass musicians,Rick Townend plays banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and dobro like a dream. With his late brother Andy he formed the legendary Echo Mountain band when still a schoolboy. He has been a major presence on the UK Bluegrass scene since the mid 1960’s and his incredible musicianship is to be heard on all the recordings below plus the Bluegrass Ramblers cassette and “The Lily and the Rose” cd also on this website.

The Original Echo Mountain Band

Their 1975 album now in cassette format. 14 superb tracks which stand comparison with the best bluegrass in Britain today, proving what a fantastic bunch of musicians the Echo Mountain Band were. The sad death of Andy Townend in 1998 was a great loss to the UK Bluegrass scene. The celebrated Townend brothers, Rick (banjo and mandolin), Andy (mandolin), Mick Audsley (guitar) and Tim Davies (bass) punch out some of their own outstanding compositions together with a few standards such as Bill Monroe's "Travelling down this lonesome road" and Don Reno's "Dixie Breakdown".

On the Best of British Bluegrass label, BoBB101.

Rosie Davis & Rick Townend

 - Make the Old Times New

20 tracks, including a fine blend of traditional old timey songs such as "Billy Grimes the Rover", tunes such as "Granny does your dog bite" which features Rosie's Appalachian clogging and Rick's fluent old timey fiddle style, plus a fair sprinkling of new material, such as Rosie's "Promises", Rick's "Wild Rose" and the dry wit and slick rhyming of Kit Griffiths' "Talking Vasectomy Blues". Rick's banjo, fiddle and guitar playing are as smooth as ever and Rosie offers some tasteful autoharp and her frenetic footwork. A BoBB production. On the Best of British Bluegrass Label BoBB 001
